Dementia/Alzheimer's Care
Dementia is not one specific disease, but is a term used to describe a variety of symptoms caused by disorders that affect the brain. These disorders are characterized by impaired memory and difficulty with language, motor activity, recognizing objects and “executive function,” which refers to the ability to plan and organize. Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive brain disease that slowly, over time, destroys memory and thinking skills. It is the most common cause of dementia among older people. If a family member or friend has dementia, you know that caring for them can be mentally and physically challenging, and can also put strain on your family and friendships. At Augusta Health Center, your loved one will receive around-the-clock care in a quiet, comfortable setting and be engaged in a variety of activities designed to provide a sense of self-worth and purpose. We also use music or memory programs to help patients enjoy each day to the fullest.
